Share how you are connected to your business idea, what inspires you to be a business owner and how your personal values align with the business.

I live with chronic pain and resulting anxiety and depression. After I was medically released in 2019, I felt I lost my identity and purpose; the only thing that got me through the day was a two-hour afternoon nap. I bought an acreage that has a large shop and my other half had tools and the patience to teach me how to use them. Woodworking and a wonderful health care team has given me back a quality of life. I found a purpose again and the physical activity helps alleviate the pain. The values I am working on are: to establish and build community connections; work on my mental and physical health; and skill development. My business helps me with all three core values.

Tell us about your WHY and your business’ WHY,
My “why” is to give me purpose and help deal with chronic pain and anxiety.

My business’ “why” is to provide beautiful, handcrafted cutting boards and charcuterie trays that people will delight to use and hopefully, inspire a gathering or two with family and friends.

If asked for my customer “why”, I would hope that I could share how anxiety has affected my life and how connecting with people builds inner strength and is very healing. We have just gone through a very stressful time with covid and now financial difficulties will affect many. I would like people to be able to spoil themselves with a designer (and affordable) board and use it to inspire re-connecting with loved ones over a nice meal.

I see a lot of strength in you and what you are doing, Linda. You HAVE a purpose, and we can all see it here and on your website. Keep it up!

The focus you have which is helping you cope with your injuries is very apparent from your products. You can see the pride in each product you create. The epoxy board is so amazing.

Do you share your product on Facebook Marketplace as well.

Linda, thank you so much for sharing your personal story so vulnerably. If you can believe it, we had someone in our last cohort doing something very similar. I’ll reach out to him to see if he’d be open to getting connected with you. Maybe there’s opportunities to collaborate somehow to achieve greater impact???

Thank you for the kind words, Eric.

Jeremy, I sell the larger furniture on FB Marketplace. I sell the boards in person at trade shows and at retail shops.

    Erin – yes please!
