Good to meet everyone!
My name is Christian Lutz-Orozco and I live in Chestermere Alberta with my wife and three kids. I was an Infantryman with the Calgary Highlanders from 2015-2019.
I am new to the world of entrepreneurship and am keen to learn as much as possible from both the course and fellow participants. The idea I am currently working on is trying to start up a local security company – though the market does have some big competitors, it seems that my area hasn’t tapped into it, and there seems to be a big need for it (big spike in local crime, law enforcement cant seem to keep up, lots of property crime, theft/vandalism), so just trying to fill a local need (and hopefully make some money for my efforts)
An interesting fact about me is that I am a big nerd and love to podcast and work with social media on the side which Im sure will prove advantageous as a skill when it comes to marketing.
My questions for the course are mostly financial in nature (taxes, organizing payrolls etc.) as I said I have little experience with private business ownership – that being said, I am keen to learn and soak up as much as possible from everyone!Hi Christian,
Are you thinking about a community-based company? What came to mind was the Block Parent campaign that was popular in the 70s and 80s, which I heard has recently gained interest in re-establishing. It’s not just about putting a sign outside or a sticker in the window, but more so about how to build the clientele. Just a quick thought I had. It might not work for you, but perhaps there is something in their model that would peak your interest.
