Darned good question!

There are indeed many canvases for different purposes or for different decision making processes.

A canvas is an efficient way to compile and present information in a compressed and visual process. Once you complete a business model canvas, you can visually see what to include in a full business plan. You can use the canvas as a start-up planning tool or a business evoluation tool, i.e. considering an expanded marketplace or adding new products or services.

You can also align the terminology in a canvas with the terms that resonate with your mind and your decision requirements at the time.

A canvas can also be used to capture staff or customer dialogue and capture their thoughts and ideas visually.

Since 80% of adults are visual learners, these visual tools are powerful.
